The Best Areas & Hotels to Stay in Singapore
Singapore turned out to be one of our favourite places to visit in Asia. It’s clean, safe and oh so colourful. Every building is beautiful and purposeful. We can actually picture ourselves living there one day, that’s how much we loved it.
The city-state of Singapore not only has the best airport in the world but also has some of the most iconic sights in Asia such as Gardens By The Bay and the Marina Bay Sands hotel.
There always has to be a downside though, and Singapore’s is how expensive it is. Whilst not the most expensive city in Asia, it isn’t exactly budget. The budget options we list further below would be considered mid-range elsewhere. However, if money is no object, Singapore absolutely has incredible accommodation choices for those splashing the cash and wanting to feel spoilt.

Where to stay in Singapore?
The way we see it, you can’t really go wrong with where you stay. The city-state has an excellent transport system with metros and buses to get you to the key sights. It is also extremely walkable. Basically, as long as you are staying near a metro station, you should be fine. Here are some of the more popular neighbourhoods in Singapore to stay in:
Little India – Great For Budget Travellers
Little India is vibrant and budget-friendly. Walking around this neighbourhood feels almost as if you are in India itself. The food is incredible, the temples are intricate and the area is possibly the most colourful in all of Singapore. Whilst it is slightly further away from key attractions such as Gardens By The Bay, we had a great time renting bikes and cycling along the river towards them. It is also well connected by the metro.
Chinatown – Great For Foodies
Chinatown is great for budget travellers and foodies. There are so many hawker centres in this area, some more off the beaten path where you can dine amongst locals and others offering Michelin star dishes for pennies. Chinatown in Singapore offers culture through food and temples. The nearby area of Boat Quay also has excellent hostel options for those trying to look after the purse strings.
Marina Bay – Great For First Timers
Marina Bay is great for first-timers and families. It is close to key attractions such as Gardens By The Bay and the Merlion and offers fantastic views of the famous skyline. If we had a little more money on our six-month Asia trip, this is where we would have chosen to stay. Honestly, the views are just incredible. Every day we found ourselves drawn to this area and its world-famous sights.
Orchard Road – Great For Luxury Travellers
Orchard Road is great for luxury travellers with a bit more to spend. The area oozes money with its designer shopping, high-end restaurants and cocktail bars. It is near key sights such as Fort Canning Park, the Botanical Gardens and the National Museum. It is also within walking distance of Clarke Quay, Little India and Arab Street.
Sentosa – Great For Families
This little island is great for recreation. Here you can find beaches, the SEA Aquarium and Universal Studios Singapore. Great for those that want to explore the city but then have somewhere to retreat back to, Sentosa Island appeals to travelling families.
