Where to Stay in Sao Miguel Azores
Although Sao Miguel is the largest island in the Azores it is still fairly small, which means you can drive from one side to the other in only 1.5 hours. However, it is still important to base yourself somewhere convenient to make the most of your time on this amazing island.
The best area to stay in Sao Miguel will depend on the length of your stay. If you are spending a whole week here, we recommend splitting your time between Ponta Delgada and Furnas. This way you will be basing yourself on either side of the island, dedicating half of your time to the east and half of your time to the west. If you only have 3-4 nights during your visit to Sao Miguel we would recommend either Ponta Delgada for airport convenience or locating yourself centrally on the island to minimise time spent driving between attractions. Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel Hotels
Ponta Delgada is the capital of the Azores and is home to some of the best Sao Miguel hotels, making for an ideal base, especially for the western side of the island. It benefits from having the only airport on the island, making it better suited for short trips as well as having the largest amount of food and accommodation options. Most importantly, it is a very convenient location for doing some of the best activities on the island, such as whale watching and going to the otherworldly Sete Cidades lakes.

We absolutely loved our stay at Azoris Royal Garden. It is a four-star hotel with 5-star facilities including a spa, gym, pools and tennis court meaning serious value for money. The hotel’s location could not be better as it is situated only 3.5km from the airport and 1km from the town centre. The rooms have a modern minimalist decor with comfy beds meaning you can wake up to your complimentary breakfast well-rested. Perfect!

Octant Ponta Delgade is one of the very few five-star hotels in Ponta Delgada and is a perfect example of the level of luxury you can find in Sao Miguel hotels. It is conveniently located next to the port where you soak in the views of the ocean. This hotel oozes luxury with stylish decor and fantastic facilities. The highlight is the rooftop pool and sushi serving bar which creates the ultimate relaxation zone. If you have the budget and want to treat yourself then look no further!

We could not believe our eyes when we saw Azorean Urban Lodge for this price, it’s a perfect example of the amazing value you can find from Sao Miguel hotels.
The one-hundred-year-old property is full of charming character balanced with modern impactful design decisions. On the lower floor, you can find communal spaces within the original exposed stone walls of the property that leads out to a dreamy terrace featuring an outdoor pool. The rooms themselves all feature a colourful mural which gives each one a unique identity.
Throw this together with the location and we think you would be hard-stuck to find a better budget option.

Hotel Talisman is another beautiful place to stay offering fantastic value for money. Here you will be transported back in time with their classy vintage decor featuring stunning stained glass throughout. Being nature lovers, Quinta D’Água is probably our favourite place we have stayed; not only in Sao Miguel Azores but out of all the places we have stayed around the globe. Can you tell us where else you can stay in a quaint house on the edge of a crater lake with bubbling geothermal geysers? The house is independently run by a family whose home is next door. They were very welcoming and made our stay comfortable by respecting our privacy. The home has all the amenities you could need during your stay and is located on a secluded residential road with directed access to the lake. It truly blew us away.

Offering complete luxury surrounded by nature, Octant Furnas is simply stunning. The hotel has a slick modern decor with natural elements throughout. Altogether, this is the perfect place if you are travelling with family or friends for an experience you will never forget!
